WWMD Starts Fish Stocking in 2024
When the WWMD learned that DNR stocking efforts in Tichigan Lake would be non existent due to budget constraints and efforts in other waterways, the board jumped into action to help support our strong fishery. Working in collaboration with the DNR we received the necessary permits and approval from our fisheries biologist. After reviewing DNR survey data and past stocking efforts it was determined that walleye and black crappie would respond well to stocking efforts. Additionally, several riparian owners reported catching various size smallmouth bass in Lake Tichigan. As a result we decided to add smallmouth bass to our stocking efforts.
2024 Fish Stocking Numbers:
2,000 Walleye (6-8in)
1,000 Black Crappie (3-4in)
1,000 Smallmouth Bass (3-5in)
Walleye are expected to grow to 11-13in in the first year, then slow their growth year two 13-15in year two, and finally 15-18in in year three. Smallmouth and Crappie have a similar growth rate.
